Which "clair-" is it again? July 11, 2012 Posted by Mookie
It's true. Dominic had a vision of The Beast in the form of clairaudience during the Revelation storyline.

I always used to get clairvoyance and clairaudience confused when I was a kid. I was big into "mysteries of the mind" type books that explored ESP, telepathy, and other psychic phenomena. It was my repeated exposure to Dungeons & Dragons books, however, that finally hammered the point home. Clairvoyance is psychic visual stuff. Clairaudience is psychic audio stuff. Roleplaying games can be educational!

Speaking of roleplaying games, I'm sure there will be lots of them to buy and/or play at ConnectiCon this weekend! You know who else will be there? Me! I told you folks I was excited about going!

There will more than likely be some form of filler on Monday, either in the form of convention photos or guest art, just like the Monday after ConnectiCon every year. Just giving you fine folks a heads-up!

That's all from me for now.

The search for Nimmel and magic items. July 10, 2012 Posted by Mookie
Are those spaceships? Or are they exotic airships made to ride the endless currents of the Plane of Air? Or are they living creatures? Or am I asking too many questions I already know the answer to in an effort to create drama down here in the news box?

And it looks like Miranda wasn't the only archmage to name magic items after herself.

I'm going to be at ConnectiCon this weekend. I know I spoke about it at length yesterday but I'll probably devote a paragraph to it for the rest of the week. I'm just excited. Yay!

Surprise surprise, I've fallen behind in answering my emails again. I'm really bad at this. But I will continue to stick to my 2012 resolution, even if I'm really bad at it! I'm hoping to get caught up before I head to ConnectiCon this weekend.

That's all from me for now.

Inhospitable plane. Hospitable convention. July 9, 2012 Posted by Mookie
It's been awhile since we've seen anyone wearing a breather mask, but it's been awhile since the air has been toxic to humans, too.

This weekend I'll be at CONNECTICON. I'm so excited to be returning to my favorite convention that I can hardly contain myself. I've made so many friends, met so many great readers, and even met my wife through ConnectiCon. I have a lot of history with this show and I'm eager to make some new memories.

I'm also heavily involved with the programming this year! I'll be doing regular panels and hosting shows in the main events hall! I'll be reprising my role as the blood-soaked master of ceremonies for the Cosplay Deathmatch and, for the first time, I'll be the emcee for the playful and sultry Comic Strip-Tease, a burlesque performance that's exactly what it sounds like put on by the Slaughterhouse Sweethearts!

Or, if you prefer, here's a video of me talking about ConnectiCon, Dominic Deegan and the Deathmatch. This is from ConnectiCon 2011 and I was only hesitant to link it because I mention ending the comic. But now that I've made that particular announcement, check me out talking about how awesome ConnectiCon is!

That's all from me for now.

Blown away. July 6, 2012 Posted by Mookie
It's been a sad week for Dominic and company. The attack on Aberthast Cathedral, which led to the tragic deaths of many innocent priests, healers and Battlecasters Mervin and Stiles. The assault on the Masters family by exceedingly warped Royal Battlecasters, which tragically took the lives of a young boy's parents. The revelation of Rilian's power being added to the Beast's already impressive arsenal. Things look bleak for our heroes.

With all that in mind, I thought it was appropriate to lighten things up a bit and end the week with a pun rather than a cliffhanger.

Hope still remains. Celesto is still out of The Beast's reach. Allies like Snowsong are reappearing to lend a hand against the encroaching darkness. And Nimmel? Well, his fate remains up in the air for now.

Next week I'll be talking all about CONNECTICON! It's my favorite convention to attend and I always have lots to say about it. I'll be there next weekend, so stay tuned!

That's all from me for now.
Rock on, and have a nice weekend!
Casualties of war. July 5, 2012 Posted by Mookie
Sorry for the slightly late update, folks. My Fourth of July celebrations were extensive and I'm apparently bad at managing my time well on national holidays. Oh well. Still managed to get the comic done and updated instead of resorting to crummy filler doodles or photos of my cats!

While Tessa was lucky enough to get a last-minute rescue in the chaos of Masutel's attack, Battlecasters Mervin and Stiles were not so fortunate. Luna and Gregory are particularly upset because they not only met them during the Beneath Our Masks chapter of The Search for Celesto, but fought beside them and were even saved by them.

For the record, I wasn't particularly thrilled with my own decision here (in so much that killing off characters, major or minor, doesn't make me happy), but when villains launch a deadly assault on this scale not everyone is lucky enough to get that last-minute rescue.

That's all from me for now.

Old wounds. July 4, 2012 Posted by Mookie
Looks like Gregory's feelings about the loss of his white magic are lingering despite his best efforts. And it looks like Jacob is still harboring some ill feelings toward Rilian, that "spiteful old zombie."

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
Everyone in the United States, anyway. I hope your celebrations and/or barbecues are happy, safe and full of fireworks!

If today isn't a national holiday for you, then I hope you have a nice Wednesday anyway! Have a Wednesday barbecue just because.

There may be filler tomorrow. It depends on how firework-filled our own barbecue will be today. Chances are slim, but I always like giving you fine folks a heads-up just in case.

That's all from me for now.

A slight experiment in confusion. July 3, 2012 Posted by Mookie
Today's comic is a bit of an experiment.

This comic originally had dialogue in most of the panels, explaining what Dominic is using his second sight on, what Milov is yelling about, what Stunt is carrying, an explanatory exclamation regarding Quilt's discovery of Snowsong (who's been at Aberthast Cathedral since her attack on Barthis), and Tessa's condition. But it all felt too expository and forced. So I cut the dialogue completely. If some things are a little unclear and somewhat confusing, then that's entirely on purpose. I felt the uncertainty of what's going on added to the confusion, anxiety, and restrained chaos of the rescue effort.

Maybe you think it works. Maybe you think it doesn't. That's the exciting and terrifying aspect of trying something a little different when telling a story.

As for Snowsong, don't forget that her battle with SuperGreg is available in the SEER'S CATALOG!

And finally, thanks to all of you for the very kind birthday wishes!

That's all from me for now.

Levelling up and catching up to the whole story. July 2, 2012 Posted by Mookie
Couple of interesting news bits on this fine Monday.

Why do I think it's a fine Monday? I may be a little biased because it's my birthday. So there's that.

Happy birfday to me!

I count my age in levels so I don't feel so bad about getting older and older. Today I'm proud to say I've hit level thirty-hurghbwahurghlmhmph. Yep. Proud to say it.

Having a seer as a main character is quite handy when he needs to be filled in on current events. In one panel he's caught up on all the terrible things that have happened. Let's see what he does from here (as soon as he gets over the shock).

And last but not least, I'm proud to announce the launch of The Whole Story! The very talented Ryan Estrada, who graced us with a very memorable filler comic awhile ago, asked me to be a part of FUSION ELEMENTARY, in which I was given an untranslated Korean comic and told to fill in the dialogue with whatever I pleased. He thought my submission was funny and I'm proud to be included alongside some incredible writers in the book! Check it out, along with the other amazing works on the site!

That's all from me for now.

Weekend wrap-up of shadowy doom. June 29, 2012 Posted by Mookie
Sorry about the lack of a news post yesterday, folks. I was a little late in writing an update, and then there was a power outage in my area. By the time the power returned, the comic had already been updated for a few hours and I figured one day of "silence" from me wasn't going to hurt anyone. There wasn't a whole lot to talk about yesterday either.

A few notes as we head into the weekend:

In yesterday's comic the Masters family butler, Bronto, was having a picnic with Szark. In case you'd forgotten, at the conclusion of A Chance To Change he'd given our resident master swordsman his contact information. Looks like Szark had taken him up on his offer.

The shadow of Masutel has attacked like this before, only without the devastating consequences.

If you guys aren't reading Atomic Robo by now, you're missing out on one of the few really fun comic books going.

It's only two weeks until CONNECTICON. My favorite show of the year. More on this as that inevitably awesome weekend looms ever closer.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and have a great weekend!
Not as indulgent as I expected myself to be. June 27, 2012 Posted by Mookie
In case you forgot:

The Masters family agreed to help Dominic find evidence against the King.

Battlecasters Mervin and Stiles are staying in Aberthast Cathedral with the Luanians.

For all my zealous fanboying over the past two days, I didn't overindulge myself as wholly as expected yesterday. In fact, the only thing I managed to get to was the Extended Cut DLC for Mass Effect 3. I only did one playthrough to the ending, with one set of choices on one saved game, but from what little I saw I found it to be a satisfying and much clearer ending than what was originally offered. Others may agree, others may disagree, but I'm not going to get any further into it. I'm happy with it and that doesn't affect anyone but me.

I'm looking forward to sinking my teeth into Dawnguard over the next few days. No pun intended. Honest. I plan to beat the crap out of those f*cking vampires, not join them.

Also didn't get a chance to pick up Gojira's new release yet. I'm old-fashioned when it comes to getting new albums. I don't like to download them. The occasional song or single is fine, but when it comes to a whole album I like to go pick up the CD in person. I still enjoy the presentation of it all, and it's not unwise to have a hard copy of your music.

That's all from me for now.

All the threats it wants. June 26, 2012 Posted by Mookie
The Beast will be going into this particular threat in much more detail tomorrow, but suffice to say that quite a few people that Dominic cares about are in trouble. It's become sort of a theme since the Beast, the King and the Infernomancer went on the offensive.

Most of what I'm excited about today was discussed, or rather fanboyed about, in yesterday's news post. Both DLCs for Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim have been high on my "I can't wait for this ohmygod I hope it's good!" list. Gojira's new album is up there, too, but I'm doing more headbanging than fanboying in anticipation for that.

For my part, I plan on staying off the internet almost entirely until I play through the Extended Cut DLC. I don't want to stumble upon any spoilers from elated and/or outraged fans, depending on how this "new" ending is received.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and geek out.
It's almost here it's almost here it's almost here...! June 25, 2012 Posted by Mookie
First the controlled archmagi strike. Then the Infernomancer. Then King David Johann. And now, finally, The Beast makes its appearance. And it looks to have gotten a bit of an upgrade.

I am seriously nerding out right now. Tomorrow three very awesome things that I've been waiting for all get released, and there will likely be a severe drop in my productivity because of it.

The Dawnguard DLC for SKYRIM comes out tomorrow. I can't wait to forge some weapons from the bones of the dragons I've slain and use them to beat the unliving crap out of some f*cking vampires. Maybe I'll make a necklace out of their fangs.

The Extended Cut DLC for MASS EFFECT 3 comes out tomorrow. The game's original ending was a severe and sudden switch in tone, and while I have no qualms with their choice of an ending, I did have some problems with how it was presented. So I'm looking forward to seeing how my super Paragon playstyle and quarian romance will play out in this version.

Gojira's new album, L'Enfant Sauvage, comes out tomorrow. This band has quickly become one of my favorites in the metal genre and I have a feeling that this new release will have been well worth the wait. The first single is a monster.

Despite my excitement and probable drop in productivity, the comic will update for Wednesday normally.

I hope.

That's all from me for now.

He was my friend, too. June 22, 2012 Posted by Mookie
Quilt served as a necromantic focus to boost Miranda's necromantic spellcasting during The Oracle Hunter. Granted, he was in a much happier mood back then.

Ever since the conclusion of Two Thief Or Not Two Thief, Quilt and Bumper had developed a steady, out-of-the-spotlight friendship. It was never explicitly stated in a "hey, we're hanging out now!" sort of way, but they were often seen in one another's company.

Even in the beginning, when Detective Quilt was busy "interrogating" Bumper... watching Dominic tap dance past them as they spent time at a Charlie Brown-esque wall... seeing the debut performance of Facebath together.

It was originally the quiet development of two supporting cast members becoming closer friends, but Dominic's vision reveals their friendship meant a lot to Quilt. And now that he's lost his buddy, he's pissed.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on, and have a nice weekend!
Jacob. Necromancer. Big brother. "Father" to a golem. June 21, 2012 Posted by Mookie
A couple of points here in today's comic, complete with some linky reminders for your convenience:

The people of Barthis were in despair the last time Jacob paid a visit.

If not for Jacob, Luna would be dead.

Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first time since Jacob and Quilt parted ways at the end of The Storm of Souls that they've been face-to-face.

More linky reminders to come as we see why Bumper's death seems to have affected Quilt so profoundly. I think this is the longest we've seen him go without smiling in a long time.

That's all from me for now.

Death at a funeral. June 20, 2012 Posted by Mookie
If there's one character that people have asked me about more than anyone, it's Jacob. The last time we saw him was the near the conclusion of The March Across Maltak, and after that only briefly when Dominic and Luna were announcing their marriage via a spell. The eldest Deegan brother wasn't going to sit out during the comic's final year, after all!

And this wouldn't be the first time Dominic has used his second sight on a corpse, but it would be the first time he's enlisted his brother's help in the matter. Actually, it wouldn't be the first time Dominic and Jacob have worked together, but a lot has changed since Jacob's "zombie alive" days.

New comic books hit the shelves today. I'm looking forward to further mythological comic bookery with Wonder Woman, as it's one of the only monthly titles I still collect nowadays.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and geek out.
