It's as bad as it looks. April 26, 2010 Posted by Mookie
Let me start off this news post by saying my girlfriend physically cringed when she had only heard what I was going to name Gregory's band.

I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Matt & Katie for their wonderful wedding over the weekend. I was honored to be a part of the ceremony and I hope I didn't make too much of a fool of myself on the dance floor. I also hope the video evidence of said dance floor tomfoolery never makes it onto YouTube.

This weekend I'll be returning to No Brand Con, so be sure to stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area! I had a great time there last year and I'm sure it will be just as awesome this time around.

Thursday is the last day to pre-order your copy of THE WAR IN HELL! Grawr!

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Some tribute. April 23, 2010 Posted by Mookie
The name of the Prontus club in today's comic is a (badly) veiled reference to the legendary New York City rock club called CBGB. While I never had the pleasure of going to a show there, the place was spoken of with reverence and awe by all my high school friends. It is sadly closed nowadays, but since this is a storyline all about music and bands I figured I needed to pay tribute to this temple of rock and roll.

And how did I pay tribute to CBGB? I made a club in Callan with a name that makes for a great gay joke. I are clever writer. Dur.

I'm off to another wedding this weekend, but my attendance won't affect Monday's update this time. Those of you wanting an encore performance of my cat Scamp doing his Spark impersonation will just have to wait.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and have a nice weekend!
Tentacular nightmares. April 22, 2010 Posted by Mookie
I'm going to talk about a couple of comic books that came out yesterday, but not before reminding folks that THE WAR IN HELL is still available for pre-order and will be until the end of the month. Whee!

On to some comic books I bought yesterday.

The latest issue of The Brave & The Bold was as stellar and awesome as every issue since J. Michael Stracyzinski's been writing it. I'm also a big fan of Cliff Chiang's artwork, so that was a bonus. Wonder Woman, Zatanna and Batgirl team up for a memorable night out with a reveal that's not only powerful but a visual treat of a layout. I cannot recommend this title enough.

Power Girl remains fun and fast paced and I love it. This is one of the most enjoyable titles I've been reading so I urge folks to pick it up while the current creative team of Palmiotti and Conner are still on it.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova are kicking some cosmic ass. 'Nuff said.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
Like father, like son. April 21, 2010 Posted by Mookie
First Nimmel, now Gregory. Haircuts (or, in this case, hair-lengthening) may appear to be a trend in these shorter, lighter stories, but I promise you folks that every character who gets the spotlight in these tales won't be going to the salon... unless I want another excuse to put a Flock of Seagulls hairstyle in the comic.

Also, Nimmel and Gregory seem to have inadvertently switched hairstyles in their respective stories. Chalk it up to one of those happy accidents or me just really liking long hair and unruly mop-top hair.

That's all from me for now.
And I raaaaaan. I ran so far awaaaaaaay.

Making the cut. April 20, 2010 Posted by Mookie
Here are some quick news items today, because after all the traveling I did over the weekend and yesterday I'm too jet-lagged to write anything else of substance.

- I am honestly surprised I was able to get a comic done at all for today. See above for the reasons why.

- I named the hair salon after my girlfriend. It was her birthday yesterday and we started dating two years ago today. Happy anniversary, hon.

- My apologies to anyone who has one of the haircuts above. Mostly.

- The War In Hell is still available for pre-order!

- I had a great time in Miami celebrating the wedding of an old friend. I promise to be as enthusiastic for the wedding I'm attending next weekend, too.

That's all from me for now.

Impostor cat! April 19, 2010 Posted by Mookie
Here's my sleep cat, Scamp, doing his best to serve as an amusing filler for you folks today as I fly home to Mookie Headquarters from Miami.

Barring delays or other inconvenient mishaps, the comic will resume normally tomorrow.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
I wanna go to Miaaaaammmmiiii. April 16, 2010 Posted by Mookie
I love introducing Rachel back into any given story. I like to try to capture that first moment of seeing her in a "what the hell is she wearing?" sort of way. I think I was successful today.

My humble and sincere thank you to those of you who have pre-ordered The War in Hell. I am in awe of your generosity, as always.

I'm still taking pre-orders, so either click the cover below or head on over to the Seer's Catalog to reserve your advance copy!

In other news, I'm heading down to Miami today for an old family friend's wedding weekend. I won't be flying back until Monday morning, and with the crunch of book production I've been doing it was just impossible for me to produce a comic for Monday. So, just a heads-up, there will likely be crummy filler something in place of a comic next week.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and have a great weekend!
War! HUH! What is it good for? April 14, 2010 Posted by Mookie

Dominic Deegan Volume 5: THE WAR IN HELL is now available for pre-order in the SEER'S CATALOG! Head over there for more information about the benefits of pre-ordering, including a special incentive of exclusive artwork!
NOTE: If you paid for an advanced pre-order at Anime Boston you will be receiving the exclusive pre-order print.

I've gone with a new design for the cover, which I am very pleased with, and will be doing so for all future printings of the collected volumes. That means once The Storm of Souls is back in stock (which may be a while), it will also have a new cover.

I'm very excited about THE WAR IN HELL book and hope you folks are, too. Thanks once again for all your love and support. I couldn't do this without you.

That's all from me for now!

Banding together. April 13, 2010 Posted by Mookie
Pre-orders for Dominic Deegan Vol. 5: THE WAR IN HELL will be available tomorrow, along with a special offer for those who do pre-order. More details tomorrow.

If you look over to my Convention Schedule you'll see that I've added a couple of destinations to my "2010 Tour." Be sure to check them out, stop by and say "hi" if you happen to be in the area. Or, if you've never experienced the madness of a convention before, check one of these out! I'm a little biased towards these listed shows, if for no other reason than I'm going to be there. Hee hee.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
A belated thank you. April 12, 2010 Posted by Mookie
Pre-orders for Dominic Deegan Vol. 5: THE WAR IN HELL will be up either tomorrow or Wednesday. Keep an eye on the SEER'S CATALOG for more information once I announce its availability!

Last week and the week beforehand I talked all about the great times I had at ICON and ANIME BOSTON respectively. I showed pictures of the people I hung out with and thanked them for making those weekends as memorable as ever, but I realized that I never mentioned two very important people from those two weekends.

Namely Matt Stingone and Nikki O'Shea, who were responsible for inviting me to those two conventions and went out of their way to make sure I was treated far better than I deserve. So, my sincerest thanks to you both for everything. I want you to know that your efforts and generosity are very much appreciated and I wouldn't have had those memorable weekends at all if it weren't for you.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
Humpbusting. April 9, 2010 Posted by Mookie
Busting my hump to meet my deadline for The War In Hell.

Enjoyed making fun of emo music in today's comic. Hee hee.

Going to take pre-orders next week, along with updating some neglected pages and my convention schedule.

I are very tired from my busted hump.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on, and have a nice weekend!
Too tired to be a nerd. April 8, 2010 Posted by Mookie
I am especially fond of today's strip. Not only because of the pun that made me groan as I was writing it, but for Gregory's inspirational dead end. I can't tell you how many times I've been in his position while trying to produce, well, anything.

I was originally going to talk about comic books that came out yesterday, namely how great Superman: Secret Origin was, how much fun Red Robin remains, and how infuriatingly and surprisingly awful JSA All-Stars was; but to be honest I'm just way too tired from trying to meet my self-imposed deadline for The War In Hell, for which I will be taking pre-orders next week.

I'll rant and rave later. Now, it's back to work.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and geek out!
A warped sense of music. April 7, 2010 Posted by Mookie
My thanks go out to the guys at The Warp Zone for graciously hosting me and putting up with my ranting for a little over an hour last night. I was a little delirious after an entire day dedicated to page layout for The War In Hell, but I had a great time and I thank them again for having me on their show.

And yes, it looks like we're getting into a band storyline here. I make no apologies.

Like I said yesterday, other characters who have been out of the spotlight may be showing up in this current arc, and it was great to draw Quilt again after such a long absence. I love putting these two together in any given situation.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
Spotlight on... April 6, 2010 Posted by Mookie
As you can see, it's Gregory's turn to get the spotlight for a little while.

I'm excited for this upcoming story, which will also be as relatively long and serious as A Nimmel House was, for a couple of reasons. First, I've missed Gregory and getting to write him is always a pleasure for me. Two, these shorter and lighter tales are a great opportunity to put the spotlight back onto the various characters that were absent during The March Across Maltak, and since Gregory isn't off in a foreign land like Nimmel was, we may be seeing more old friends pop up during Gregory's current adventure.

I hope you'll all enjoy this as much as I already am. Whee!

One last (but not least) thing. I'll be calling in to The Warp Zone tonight to discuss the comic and heroes in general. I certainly hope you folks listen in.
Note to self: Oh lord, I really need to stop making stupid faces when I see a camera. You never know when someone is going to use such a photo as a promotional picture. Yeesh.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Anime Boston busted my brain. April 5, 2010 Posted by Mookie
ANIME BOSTON was fun but exhausting. As you can see I didn't have time to produce a comic for today between preparation for the con and working on The War In Hell book. I'm on my last reserves of energy as I write this, so I'll keep this (relatively) brief for now.

I may be apologizing to Scott Wegener for my inferior portrayal of Atomic Robo, but I want to thank him for being a gracious and awesome table-mate during the exhausting hours of Anime Boston. One day we'll get around to planning "CurmudgeonCon."

I hope Garth had a good stay in the Chateau Mookie for the weekend. It was a pleasure to host him... even if he is an ALBATROSS!

It was lovely to meet you, Lindsay. I'm sorry I was a grouch to you when I worked customer service at that art store. I'm glad you're reading... and Baman Piderman is freaking hilarious.

I also want to thank Jayd for being a great "table neighbor" for the weekend. Her artwork is really solid and I recommend giving it a look-see.

And last but not least, thanks to all of you wonderful readers who came to visit me at the convention. It's always a pleasure to meet you folks in person and you bless me each and every time you come to my table. You're the best readers in the world.

And now it's back to work. Dominic and company return tomorrow.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
