I'm Mookie and I approve this message. January 20, 2009 Posted by Mookie
I normally don't like to put politics into my news posts, but I feel like addressing something that will happen today in the United States that has me pretty excited. We're getting a president that I'm actually optimistic about.

It's no secret that I'm not going to miss our old president, whose name I use for him I won't bother to repeat to you fine folks. Hell, whenever I saw him on television I would physically flip him the bird. It's also no secret that I am very, very far to the left on the political spectrum so my opinions tend to be rather strong. However, in the interest of diplomacy and courtesy, I will only say that I'm happy to see the current guy in charge leave office.

I love my country. I do. For the past eight years, however, I have certainly not liked the guys running the place. It's like when you get hired to work at a really awesome store, where they let you wear what you want and even play your own music. Then some new bosses come in and totally screw the place up and nobody around likes the once-awesome store any more, even though you know it has the potential to be a pretty stellar place. That's what I've felt like as an American for the last eight years.

I'm optimistic about Obama. I'm admittedly a little disturbed by some of the blind optimism and idealistic praise about a man who hasn't even taken office yet, but I'd like to think I'm going to remain objective and see how things turn out in the upcoming months.

I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope I'm not wrong about my current state of political hopefulness.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Have him executed at once. January 19, 2009 Posted by Mookie
I'm going to give up on the idea of a second Donation Wallpaper this month. It's past the middle of January already and my numerous attempts at getting the idea I want onto paper have come up short. So I'll just make up for it in February and hopefully have a couple of wallpapers you fine folks will want to take a gander at. In the meantime there are still two orcs looking for cuddles in this month's wallpaper.

The update to the Fan Art pages ought to be up by Wednesday at the latest.

And finally, I've been dabbling in photography lately and will have some way of showing off my (very meager) attempts in that endeavor some time soon. If you're interested in that sort of thing, anyway.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Filmed in glorious Mookicolor! January 16, 2009 Posted by Mookie
While there may not be any more full-color Sunday strips, I felt that adding some color to the last panel of today's comic was appropriate. I didn't think drawing a bunch of grass amidst all those busy lines in the desert would've been clear, so I added a little green.

That and my best friend (who's visiting me today) yelled at me for more color since he misses the Sunday color comics.

Will I do this again in this storyline? Who knows? Well, I kinda know but I'm being vague on purpose.

That's all from me for now.
See you on Monday!
Oh no... the problem! I must have fruit! January 15, 2009 Posted by Mookie
Truth be told, Donovan's orcish wasn't that inaccurate this time. Whether or not he meant to say "fruit" is still a mystery. He's a tricky old bard.

In other news, I must be the last person in the world to discover and enjoy Pandora Radio. Ever since XM Radio's metal station began to, for lack of a better term, absolutely suck I was in need of a source of new music. This has filled the gaping chasm of metal in my metallic soul and I recommend it. I hear something new every single day.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and stay metal.
What my girlfriend won't let me do. January 14, 2009 Posted by Mookie
I learned a valuable lesson yesterday about updating this news box. I can't do it from my girlfriend's apartment. For some reason I just couldn't connect to the log-in screen that lets me update this thing. Oh well. Sorry for the late news update.

Which is funny, because I really don't have all that much to say today. The second of January's Donation Wallpapers should be up by the end of this week and I'll do my best to update the criminally neglected Fan Art pages. There may be a delay, however, since my best friend (who has seen fit to tolerate my company since middle school) will be visiting me this weekend. Yay!

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
What a Wonderful advertisement! January 13, 2009 Posted by Mookie
I guess the new advertising thing worked out faster than I thought. Hooray for the internet.

Anyway, for those of you who are interested in advertising around here the top banner space is currently up for bidding through the wonderful folks at Project Wonderful. We'll see how that works out for all of us. Bidding prices are low to start with, what with the United States economy pretty solidly in the crapper, so take advantage of some prime advertising real estate... and all that salesman-type business talk.

The tower banner to the left of the news box is not currently up for sale, though that will likely change in the future.

And finally, this entire news post was written in the voice of the narrator from Danger Mouse. That's what I get for buying the complete series box set.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
And Penfold... shush.
Streamlined and slick! January 12, 2009 Posted by Mookie
Check it out, y'all.
The place is looking all streamlined and nifty, isn't it?
I'm digging the new look and I hope you all do, too.

Well, it's not really a "new" look but a much-needed improvement and update on the existing style. The navigation buttons are in my own handwriting, there's double the amount of advertising on the front page (from one ad to two!) and a list of my upcoming conventions! Granted, these are not the only cons I'll be appearing at and more will be added as my attendance is confirmed.

Keep an eye on things down here as well, as I plan on doing a news post every single day. There may not always be something profound or terribly interesting, but there will always be something new to read during the week along with the new comic.

For those of you who have written to me concerning advertising, there will be more information on that later this week.

The second Donation Wallpaper as well as the update to the Fan Art pages will also be coming later this week as I more comfortably settle in to the site's new layout and other such things.

If you notice anything broken or funny-looking in your navigation of the streamlined layout, please e-mail me and let me know. Otherwise, enjoy the slick new design!

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
This is not a test. Wait. Yes it is. January 11, 2009 Posted by Mookie
This is just a test to see if the news posts are working with the new site layout and such.

Hello. Hallo. Hi there.

Okay, now I click the "post" button and hope to God that everything doesn't fall apart.

Here goes nothing...
NOW where's my comic?! January 10, 2009 Posted by Mookie
In case you're stopping by today and wondering where Saturday's comic is, I'm afraid I need to remind you that starting this year I've gone back to updating only Monday through Friday. At the present time this means no full-color, full-page strips on Sundays anymore, but that may change in the future (one way or another).

The comic returns on Monday.
Have a lovely weekend, and rock on.
Missing the comic? Me too. January 8, 2009 Posted by Mookie
If you're having problems seeing today's comic... so am I.

There's some behind-the-scenes stuff going on regarding server name changes and other assorted goodies that I'm trying to get fixed up. With any luck, things ought to be back to normal soon.

Cross your fingers.
Here's to an epic new year! January 5, 2009 Posted by Mookie
Hey gang!
We're back!
I hope you all had a fantastic holiday, because I know I did and I'm ready to get things rolling here.

I'm starting 2009 off with an "epic" storyline. This is going to be one of those high stakes, high drama, possibly world changing stories where our heroes go on a great adventure and there's a chance not everyone will be coming back. So if you like the smaller stakes stories... well... I'd come back in a few months, because this one is going to be a big one. I only hope those of you who like my "epic" stories like this one, because I'm excited about it.

You'll also notice that the orcs are going to look a little different. I've decided to start drawing them with a more pronounced snout, so they don't just look like wild elves with tusks.

I'll be making a long overdue update to the Fan Art pages before the end of the week. Next week the front page may be a little more streamlined, provided the update my friend and I are working on goes through.

One of the two Donation Wallpapers for January are up. If you want to wait to donate until they both go up, that's cool. If you want to donate now I'll send you the current one now and the second one when I put it up later this week.

That's all from me for now. More later on upcoming conventions and all that.
Rock on, and happy new year!
Dun dun DUNNNN. December 21, 2008 Posted by Mookie
Things are going to be a little more difficult for Dominic and the crew heading into Maltak. I wouldn't call this so much of a cliffhanger as a "foreboding ending." Mwa ha ha.

And that's it for 2008!
If you're reading this I'm on my way to visit my parents and spend time with my family for the holidays. Dominic Deegan will return on Monday, January 5th with its new update schedule of five days a week, Monday through Friday.

Thanks to each and every one of you for all your support this year. Here's hoping you all have a wonderful holiday and I hope to see you all come 2009.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and happy holidays!
A final countdown of sorts. December 15, 2008 Posted by Mookie
Hey there, folks.
A couple of things to announce this week that are pretty significant in regards to the comic.

First of all, this is the last week of updates for the year. Sunday will be the last strip of 2008 before I take my annual break to visit my family for the holidays. Dominic Deegan will return on Monday, January 5th with a few changes. I've been in touch with a couple of friends of mine concerning slight changes to the layout of the site and someone else handling my merchandise.

The first definite and most significant change you'll see in 2009 is that Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire will be going back to updating five days a week. There will still be eight panels a day, Monday through Friday, but there won't be anything on Saturdays and no more full-color one-panel strips on Sundays.

I've decided to cut my update schedule for a number of reasons. Readership is always the lowest on the weekends. I have a number of conventions next year that are within one week of each other. This will give me time to work on other things for the site as well as other projects I've had my eye on but no time to do them. Some of you may be disappointed with this cut in updates, but I feel it is the best thing for the comic and I appreciate your continued patience and support in this matter.

Finally, the SEER'S CATALOG is back online and the THREE VOLUME HOLIDAY SPECIAL is on for its final week. Keep in mind that I cannot even remotely guarantee that your orders will arrive in time for the holidays, but I'll do my best to get them out in a timely manner.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
There's... too many of them! December 10, 2008 Posted by Mookie
In case you're wondering why the SEER'S CATALOG isn't online and/or working when you click the link in the menu bar, it's because I've temporarily taken it down. You've all shown me such wonderful support in buying copies of my books for the holidays that I've become a little overwhelmed. I've stopped taking orders for now in an attempt to get caught up and get all the book orders out so they'll arrive in time for the holidays.

At the very latest, the SEER'S CATALOG will be back online by the weekend. I should be all caught up by then.

Again, thank you all so very much for your support. I cannot express my gratitude enough.

In other news, I'll be attending ConnectiCon's Member Appreciation Day this Saturday from about 12pm-2pm. Directions and other important information can be found on the forums. This is a last-minute thing I've agreed to so stop on by to say "hi" if you're in the area. I'll probably be feeling chatty, as usual.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Humbled by your generosity once more. December 8, 2008 Posted by Mookie
I know times are tough and the world's economy is going to hell in a freaking handbasket, so with that in mind I must express my endless gratitude to all of you who are taking advantage of the THREE VOLUME HOLIDAY SPECIAL I'm offering. Your generosity and support mean the world to me and I cannot thank you all enough.

And to those of you who don't see the holiday special in your budget this year, I still love you and endlessly appreciate your loyalty and support. It means the world to me.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
