Fifteen-hundred and counting August 24, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Sorry I haven't been to posty this week, everyone. I've been feeling a little under the weather, but the bug seems to have left me. Mostly. I still have a bit of a tummy-ache as I write this.

In any case, thanks to those of you who wished me a "happy 1500 strips!" I really appreciate that. It even got mentioned over at Applegeeks. I can't believe that picture of me is still floating around.

And, in a Mookie-related sighting that has nothing to do with my 1500-strip landmark, yours truly made a guest appearance over at Genrezvous Point! I'm super glad this webcomic is updating again. I was hooked from the very first story about "the seven plagues of cinema." Give it a look-see.

And when you say hi to Brian Carroll, the creator, tell him Mookie said to say, "They! Must! Find! A! Way!" /inside joke

That's all from me for now!
Landmarky! August 19, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Love it or hate it, this is the 1500th strip of Dominic Deegan.

Just in case you were keeping track.

Thanks for fifteen-hundred comics of pure joy.
Thank you all so much.
The greatest nation is Donation. August 16, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Well it only took about a million years and half of August for me to get around to it, but this month's Donation Wallpapers are up for your consideration. I happen to think they came out looking rather nice, so I hope you enjoy them.

Another bit of business I have to get to around here is the return of the Comic Book Day Reviews. It's been months since I've done one, so in order to catch up, here's a quick list of titles I've been reading that get my Seal of Approval... if that happens to count for anything in the grand scheme of things.

The All-New Atom
New Warriors
Nova
Justice Society of America
Robin
Outsiders
Superman
Blue Beetle
Justice League of America
The Flash
Thunderbolts!

The "big event" books have been a little disappointing for me, due to their terrible cases of tie-in-itis. I'm on a budget, for pity's sakes! I haven't got the money to buy every freaking book on a freaking checklist just to read a freaking story! I'm looking at you World War Hulk, Amazons Attack and Countdown.

Although Countdown is beginning to shed its tie-in-itis and standing alone fairly well. Or maybe I just have a soft spot for Pied Piper & Trickster and The Atom's team of explorers. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

New books that have come out that show a great deal of potential are two of the Annihilation: Conquest titles, Quasar and Star Lord. Also having just come out yesterday was the debut of the always-entertaining Booster Gold series, which promises to be fantastic if the next issues are as good as this first one.

That's all from me for now.
Blah. August 13, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Donation Wallpapers did not, as you can see, go up last week like I said they would. The reason for that was a rotten, old-fashioned case of artist's block. Nothing was coming out right. Or even very good. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be more successful this week, since August is nearly half over as it is.

That's all from me for now.
Back to wrapping things up with the Snowsong arc.
Fratz. August 9, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Hey gang.

A weird computer glitch, combined with an untimely power outage, seems to have strangely erased a month's worth of e-mails from my inbox.

If you sent me something between the beginning of July and now that you'd like me to reply to... be it compliments, complaints, ad inquiries or what-have-you... send it to me again so I can reply. I know for a fact I lost a few ad inquiries I hadn't gotten around to answering yet.

That's all from me for now.
To be con-tinued... August 7, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I had a nice time at Atsui-Con this past weekend. It was a small first-year convention with a lot of heart, and it really showed when it counted. I sometimes prefer the smaller cons because it allows that much more time to talk to attendees and hang out with fellow Guests.

Much love to Xero and Myk for helping me cause the usual amount of trouble... although I think we caused done 250,000 times more trouble than we did. And by the way, guys... it's called Speed Stick. It's not expensive.

I also got to make a bunch of new friends, which is always exciting for me. It was a real pleasure to hang out with Amelie Belcher, Kristopher Straub, Greg Ayres, Carrie Savage, Chris Ayres, Wendy Powell, Blake Shepard, Taleisin Jaffe, and Lillyxandra & Haruka. Not to mention the outstanding Guest relations staff that not only made me feel right at home, but even cooked me a vegan dinner on Sunday. Thank you all for making this weekend so very enjoyable.

And last but not least, Donovan & Miranda stopped by to visit me! As usual, Donovan couldn't resist taking off his shirt to show off his Kelsheen mark.

That's all from me for now!
August's Donation Wallpapers ought to be up this week.
Don't lose your head over this... August 2, 2007 Posted by Mookie
If you're reading this, I've got one foot out the door on my way down to Atsui-Con for the weekend. It also means that, try as I might, I just didn't have the energy to produce enough strips to cover my absence.

And so, once again, for the next three days, there will be crummy filler doodles! *dum dum DUMMMM!* They're pencil sketches, but they're sneak peeks into the next storyline so I do hope they pique your collective curiosity.

The strip returns to the conclusion of the Snowsong storyarc on Monday. I'll still be traveling that day, but I was able to get that strip done ahead of time.

Man. Three conventions in four weekends is tiring.
I'm trying not to lose my head over here.

...

Okay. Even I thought that was awful.
See you at Atsuicon!
No rest for a con man. July 30, 2007 Posted by Mookie
There seems to be no rest for this con man.

I will be a Guest at Atsui-Con this weekend down in Houston, TX. It's a new convention and they were nice enough to invite me, so this should be fun. Be sure to stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area.

This being the third convention in four weekends is something altogether new and, quite honestly, a bit draining, but I'm going to do my best to produce enough strips to cover my absence. Just don't be surprised if I miss a strip one day or two while I'm gone. I'll keep you all posted one way or another.

I should also mention that I am inexcusably behind in sending out book orders for ECSTASY & EVIL, but I guarantee that every single book order will be sent out before I leave for Atsui-Con on Friday. Also, the criminially neglected Fan Art pages have been updated. There's tons of great new artwork to be seen, so go check it out. Last week I forgot to mention a couple of folks who showed me much love during Otakon, and I feel absolutely terrible for not showing them some proper linky love. So here they be, and I hope they can forgive me for my scatterbrainyness. Is that even a word?

Juno and Xero, I hope you can forgive me for my scatter-thingy. The con wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable if not for you. Thanks for keeping me company and ruining my pasta dinner.

And finally, this weekend I had the privilege to see a singer/songwriter from Rhode Island named Lori Amey perform in New York City. The show was great and her music is fantastic. Check out her music and tell her Mookie sent ya!

That's all from me for now!
Let's re-con-vene here, shall we? July 23, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I just got back to Mookie HQ from both ConnectiCon and Otakon. Before we get into a discussion about how many sharks I seem to be jumping lately, I want to share something that I think everyone will enjoy.

Convention photos and links to webcomics who deserve some love, combined from both conventions.

Holy crap.
What a week.

The comic resumes its regular seven-days-a-week update schedule as of right now.
As of right now, I'm going to try and catch up with feedback, e-mails, fan art and whatever else has come my way during this very busy, very tiring and very exciting week.

It's good to be back!
But now it's back to work!
Con updates... literally. July 10, 2007 Posted by Mookie
In case you're wondering why there's no new strip up at the normal updating time, I have a perfectly good explanation.

For the remainder of this week and the following week only, the comic will be switching to a Monday-Wednesday-Friday updating schedule. I'm doing this because ConnectiCon is this weekend, Otakon is the following weekend, and I will be out of town during the week in between those two conventions. Temporarily switching to Mon-Wed-Fri updates will allow me to produce enough strips to cover my absence without having to resort to crummy filler doodles and/or begging for last minute fan art.

In any case, it's back to work for me.
I hope to see you at ConnectiCon this weekend!
It's going to be awesome.
What a con man! July 6, 2007 Posted by Mookie
In case you missed it, yesterday's strip went up around 3pm Eastern Standard time. Sorry it was so late, but I was coming back from visiting friends for the Fourth of July. Better nate than lever, right?

Anyway, with all the recent distractions and drama around Mookie HQ I've regrettably neglected to mention a couple of very cool things I'll be involved in... and they just happen to be ConnectiCon, which takes place next weekend, and Otakon, which happens the very next weekend. Needless to say, it's going to be a crazy week.

While I'll be at my Artist's Alley table all weekend for Otakon, I'll be involved in lots of cool things for ConnectiCon. For the third year in a row I'll be hosting the Anime Cosplay Chess Game, I'll be auctioning my services off at the Webcomic Auction (which benefits the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund), you can come pick my brain at the Dominic Deegan Q&A and I will once again be doing my Writing Unique Heroes & Memorable Villains talk. Be sure to stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area!

That's all from me for now.
See you at the cons!
Ka-Boom! July 4, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Happy Fourth of July to those of you who celebrate this fireworky holiday!

I did warn you that today's filler artwork was going to be especially cheesy.

Don't worry. I'll erase it tomorrow when the new comic goes up, which incidentally will be going up late because I'll returning from an out-of-town trip. But it will be up.

In the meantime, have a safe and awesome Fourth of July!

And thanks for all the birthday wishes.
They were very, very much appreciated.
Ding. July 2, 2007 Posted by Mookie
The comic's been updating a week now and everything seems back on track for the most part. I've done my best to answer every e-mail in my ridiculous backlog from the past year and I've still got about a hundred or so to go, so bear with me while I plow through them. If you wrote to me, I'll answer. I swear.

I'm also dreadfully behind on the Fan Art pages yet again, but rest assured that I will be doing some serious catching up on those, too.

There will also be some cheesy filler up for the Fourth of July, since I'm going to Boston for that.

And finally, with all this stuff going on, I have just one last selfish thing to announce...

Today's my birthday.
I hit level 28.
Back up in yo' ass with the resurrection! June 26, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Hey folks.

I'm back.

Hanging in there and getting the comic updated again.

I'm doing my best to get caught up with all the wonderful, supportive and heart-warming e-mails I've received from you all. I am quite literally overwhelmed by the show of sympathy from you and I can do nothing less than extend my humblest of thanks. I've said it a million times, but only because it's true... you're the greatest readers in the whole freaking world.

But life goes on, and now it's back to work for me.
Whack. June 20, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Hey folks.

So. Yeah. I'm not in really any healthy frame of mind to update the strip right now... or tomorrow... or the next day. My life has just gone through a major upheaval and I need a few days of down-time. I also need these next few days to unpack my entire life, which is currently in a bunch of boxes.

Dominic and company will return on Monday.

I am very grateful for your continued patience, love and understanding during all of this... which is why I'm also going to be spending the next few days repaying the kindness of those who have written to me with a special surprise.

That's all from me for now.
