On the road. Again. June 16, 2007 Posted by Mookie
If you're reading this, I'm on the road to Ohio, moving my ladyfriend to her new job. Actually I hit the road yesterday, but that's beside the point.

I should be settled in New York around Wednesday or Thursday, at which point I'll give you folks an update as to how much more I'll be updating that week. I honestly don't know what sort of physical and emotional state I'll be in, so I apologize ahead of time for flaking out on updates.

I just want to thank each and every one of you who sent me supportive and sympathetic e-mails. Your patience and understanding really mean a lot to me in all this. You remain the greatest readers in the world, and I don't know what I'd do without you.

That's all from me for now.
Back on the road I go.
Quick change! June 11, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Big change of plans around here, ladies and gentlemen.
Where formerly I thought I would be moving out of Texas at the end of June / beginning of July, I am instead moving out of Texas at the end of the week.

The strip is still going "on hold" at the end of the week while I help my ladyfriend drive her stuff across the country to her new job. The only difference now is that once she's arrived at her destination, I continue onward straight to New York. I'll keep you all updated as things develop with this very last-minute change.

And finally...
CHRISTIAN WATNESS, could you please e-mail me your correct address? Your copy of Ecstasy & Evil bounced back to me.
At long last, I've updated the Archive page. Sorry it took so long.

That's all from me for now.
The long road ahead. June 8, 2007 Posted by Mookie
All right folks.
Here's the deal.

Next weekend, starting on June 15th, I'm going to be driving my ladyfriend across the country to her new job. The trip will take us about four to five days. I'm super excited and proud of her and she's going to kick all sorts of ass.

The thing is I'll be returning to Texas after the trip.

My ladyfriend and I have decided to go our separate ways after almost four years. I have no idea what sort of shape I'm going to be in after this trip, so updates may be on-and-off. Then there's the whole process of moving myself out of Texas, so that may mean more comic delays. I don't know. I'll keep you all posted as these things develop.

I know I've been bad about keeping things up-to-date around here, like the Archive and the Fan Art pages, and my comic updates have been a little fickle as well. This is why, and I do apologize.

Just bear with me a little while longer.
The Adventures of the Conventioneer! June 5, 2007 Posted by Mookie
And we're back.
Thanks for being so patient with me. This month is going to be kind of rough when it comes to updates, but I'll have more news on that later. Now is a time for a happy news post.

A-KON was a blast. I had a great time at this fantastic convention and I want to thank all of you who were able to stop by and say "hi" to me. My Writing Unique Heroes & Memorable Villains panel was very well-received and I'm grateful to all of you who attended and made me feel right at home.

My thanks to Riff and Josh for being so patient with me, seeing as how they had to sit on either side of me all weekend.

My very special thanks to Blair B. and her husband for being so generous and courteous to little ol' me. I can't wait to see you two again.

And I'm sorry, Xero. We'll have to watch Chop Saki Justice at another convention. There was just no room for me in your hotel room harem this weekend.

But without further ado... convention pictures!
A book's-eye view of AKON.
Luna always greets me with a smile.
Helixa, on the other hand, greeted me with a smile of a different nature.
Dominic and Luna stopped by to show off their summer clothes.

While we're at it, since I neglected to do it at the time, here are some pictures from last month's Anime Central.
The return of the pin-doll!
Ananth and I are too metal for one hand.
Nimmel's about get all seasonal on my ass.
Four grinning idiots. Then two more grinning idiots came by to join us.

That's all from me for now!
More on the state of things later this week.
Racial AKON filler! June 1, 2007 Posted by Mookie
This pic will be up all weekend while I'm at A-KON.

It's a quick sketch of the major races of the DD world.

Hope you like it!
Off to A-KON! May 31, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I head off to A-KON today.
Just a quick reminder that there will be filler-art up this weekend to cover my absence.
I'm not sure if there will be a comic up on Monday.
Just a heads-up.

With that said, I hope to see you at A-KON! They're letting me do my Writing Unique Heroes & Memorable Villains on Saturday, so I'm super excited and nervous to give this talk at one of the biggest conventions of the year. Should be fun! I hope. *nervous!*

That's all from me for now!
Now it's off to A-KON!
June bug May 28, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Whatever was making my computer all sickly has somehow gone away. Apparently my computer came down with a twenty-four hour cold and it fixed itself. I am not one to question good fortune, so I'll just leave it at that.

The big news today is that I will be at A-KON this weekend! I'll have copies of ECSTASY & EVIL as well as a very limited number of SEER'S DIGEST and Dominic Deegan scarves. Be sure to get 'em while supplies last (I really do love saying that)!

Now for the crummy "filler art warning" news. There will be some kind of filler up for A-KON this weekend. There will also be filler up the weekend of June 15th and possibly some of that following week because I'm helping my ladyfriend move to her amazing new job. There's much more to this than I'd care to talk about right now, but rest assured I'll keep everybody posted as to when there may be future delays in posting and/or just more filler.

In any case, I hope to see you at A-KON!
News delay May 24, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Something's funny with my computer.

News post updates and other such goodies may be delayed until I can figure this nonsense out.

Happy Birthday, Seer! May 21, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire is five years old today.

What else can I say? Except for a huge "thank you" to all of you who have stuck with me and put up with me for half of a decade. I have been overwhelmed by your love and support for the past five years, and I hope I don't do anything to make you all go away any time soon.

Five years with the greatest readers in the world.

Once my wisdom-teeth wounds heal up, I'll make sure to eat a piece of cake in your honor. Yummy carrot cake.

Incidentally, I should mention that my wisdom-teeth removal put me a little behind schedule in shipping out all the orders I received last week for ECSTASY & EVIL. I should get everything out in the mail this week.

Thank you all so much again for the best five years of my life. Here's hoping y'all stick around for many more!

See you at A-KON!
Guilty pleasures! May 16, 2007 Posted by Mookie
The turnaround at the printer was much faster than I could have ever anticipated. I've got about fourteen boxes worth of guilty goodness in my apartment right now, so I'm going to skip the whole pre-order thing and get right to the big news...

ECSTASY & EVIL is now available!

I am very happy with the way the book came out. Each page contains some colorful commentary by yours truly and Szark's extended biography is a backup feature. Did I mention I am very happy with the way the book came out? *glee*
Exhausted May 14, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Anime Central completely blindsided me.

I was completely unprepared for this convention. Its size and attendance caught me off guard and I was exhaustingly busy all weekend. While I had an amazing time there, I was given no opportunities to work on today's strip.

In the meantime, I certainly hope that Ananth and I at our most metal is sufficiently entertaining.
Off to Anime Central! May 10, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I'm off to ACEN today to get ready for the festivities there tomorrow. I'll be there selling SEERS DIGEST, issues of SPWUG and a very limited number of Dominic Deegan scarves. It's first come first serve on those scarves, so be sure to get 'em (I love saying this) while supplies last. I believe I will be giving my notorious Writing Unique Heroes & Memorable Villains talk, and I'm always excited when that's on my to-do list. Stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area!

I changed my mind about this month's Donation Wallpapers. I decided to go with previously seen images but make them yours to download for free. This is in celebration of ECSTACY & EVIL: Dominic Deegan Vol. 2 going up for pre-order next week. I'm very proud of this new volume and will have the proper pre-order information up when I get back.

I have two filler art warnings. The first fillers will come this very weekend while I'm at ACEN. I tried to get enough strips done to cover my absence but real life made that impossible. The second fillers will come next weekend because I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled that Thursday. I don't know how out-of-commission I'll be, but just don't be surprised if there's sketches instead of strips up on that Friday.

And finally, briefly, here's a quick "thumbs-up" list of the new comics I bought yesterday. No big reviews today. Just take my word that these are quality comics.
Thunderbolts #114
Nova #2
Countdown #51
Tales of the Unexpected #8 of 8

That's all from me for now!
See you at ACEN!
ACEN and updates May 7, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Got a few things to mention here, so I'll be quick about it.

First of all, I'll be causing all sorts of mischief at ACEN this coming weekend! I'll be in the company of the usual crew of ruffians and ne'er-do-wells, so I'm sure it'll be a blast. Stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area!

Second of all, I busted my butt to get it done and, with any luck, I should be seeing the first proof of ECSTASY & EVIL either today or tomorrow! If all goes well and/or smoothly, it will definitely be making its debut at A-KON in June. Look for info about pre-ordering later this week.

Finally, I had planned to have May's Donation Wallpapers up today, but truth be told they just ended up looking like crap. So instead of turning the full-page Sunday strips into wallpapers, I decided to try again. The new wallpapers ought to be up around the same time as the pre-order info for Volume Two.

Thanks for being patient with me!
Fifty-two weeks later May 3, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I bought a bunch of new comics yesterday, and many of them were very good, but there's only one I really want to talk about today.

One year ago I bought the first issue of 52. For weeks I spoke about how it was the best thing I was reading, and yesterday the final issue of this year-long adventure hit the shelves.

I could not have been happier with what I read. I was nervous because I was really looking forward to the "big finale" and was almost expecting a disappointment. Instead my expectations were exceeded and I got the kind of ending I adore. What exactly happened? You'll have to read it for yourself.

When I turned the last page I got a strange feeling, very similar to the one I felt when I finished reading Lord of the Rings. When I reached the end of these stories, I felt sad. I'd spent so much time with these characters, getting to know them and being with them from the very first step of their adventure that it was both gratifying to see where they ended up, and a little sad because I knew my time with them was over.

I tip my hat to 52. It put the spotlight on a cast of minor superheroes and it made them the stars. It was an epic in every sense of the word and I can't wait to go back and read the entire series straight through all over again.
Monday. Yeah. April 30, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Today's strip was originally going to feature a darker and more mysterious entrance by Jacob, but this version gave me a serious case of the giggles when I thought it up. So I went for the laugh instead. I think it was the right choice.

Anyway, it looks like Dominic Deegan Volume 2: Ecstasy & Evil will be produced in time for A-KON in June. While it will be made officially "for sale" at that convention, I'll be setting up pre-orders for it this month. Keep your eyes open.

Regarding SEER'S DIGEST, I only have a very limited number in stock and I'll be selling the remaining copies at ACEN and A-KON. I don't know when more copies will be made available, as I'm switching printers for this second volume.

That's all from me for now.
