Of comic books and down-time April 26, 2006 Posted by Mookie
So now that I have a working news archive here, I'm going to try something new.

Every Wednesday I go to my local comic book shop and buy the week's new comic books. I love comics. I've been reading them for years. So here in this space, every Thursday, I'm going to tell y'all about the comics I'm totally geeking out over.

The Incredible Hulk's "Planet Hulk" storyline continues to be refreshingly simple and engaging. Nothing too complicated here. The Hulk is stuck on an alien world fighting like a gladiator. Great cosmic comic bookery here with enough wonder and aliens to keep the pages turning.

Was very pleased with the ending to The Sentry mini-series. It was like reading a comic book equivalent to Twin Peaks for a while there, but the end came with surprising clarity.

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane is the most adorable series I'm reading now. It is definitely my guilty pleasure.

Hawkgirl's "haunted museum" story is picking up speed. I like everything DC Comics is doing with their "One Year Later" event, but I was skeptical with Hawkgirl. I loved Hawkman and I'm eagerly awaiting his return, but until then Hawkgirl is on her own and the series does well with her solo.

And finally, The Warlord is just pure escapism. Modern man stuck in a fantasy world. The artwork takes some serious getting-used-to, but I'm a sucker for sword-and-sorcery tales like this.
