Before I head off to IKKICON this weekend, I do believe I have time to let y'all know what I thought of the (few) new comics I picked up yesterday.
I'm going to talk about JSA Classified #22 and Hawkgirl #60 because they're linked. Hawkman's been missing for the past year with little mention as to his whereabouts. He's one of my favorite superheroes and he'd been gaining major momentum before his disappearance, so I was curious where he was. The "big revelation" was not only done far too quickly and without much fanfare, but also has absolutely nothing to do with how he and Hawkgirl got separated at the end of the Infinite Crisis and Hawkgirl's ailment in 52! GAH! On the bright side, the new artist for Hawkgirl draws lovely butts.
I knew I was in for a treat when I picked up Ultimate Civil War: Spider-Ham #1 yesterday. I laughed my ass off cover-to-cover with this one. Throw in an appearance by Doctor Strange and I'm one happy hamper... er, camper.
Things are coming close to the end in Uncle Sam and The Freedom Fighters #7 of 8. With a turncoat revealed and the awesome might of the Cosmigods bearing down on the Heartland, things are looking bad for Uncle Sam... until an old friend makes a kick-ass return. Of all the costumes that have been re-vamped from the original Freedom Fighters, this one has to be my favorite. I thought Black Condor was going to be on the top of my list for a while, but I'm a sucker for a helmet with a fin on it.
And finally, things look downright horrible in week thirty-nine of 52. I think poor Aquaman's finally lost his mind. Ralph Dibny makes further sacrifices. Black Adam's got four big problems headed his way. Infinity Inc. is... oh dear lord that's gross. Where are those missing fifty-two seconds? And Lex Luthor gets exactly what he wants. But not everything's looking bad. I mean, did you know that Mercury is the only metal that's liquid at room temperature?
