Fifty-two weeks later May 3, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I bought a bunch of new comics yesterday, and many of them were very good, but there's only one I really want to talk about today.

One year ago I bought the first issue of 52. For weeks I spoke about how it was the best thing I was reading, and yesterday the final issue of this year-long adventure hit the shelves.

I could not have been happier with what I read. I was nervous because I was really looking forward to the "big finale" and was almost expecting a disappointment. Instead my expectations were exceeded and I got the kind of ending I adore. What exactly happened? You'll have to read it for yourself.

When I turned the last page I got a strange feeling, very similar to the one I felt when I finished reading Lord of the Rings. When I reached the end of these stories, I felt sad. I'd spent so much time with these characters, getting to know them and being with them from the very first step of their adventure that it was both gratifying to see where they ended up, and a little sad because I knew my time with them was over.

I tip my hat to 52. It put the spotlight on a cast of minor superheroes and it made them the stars. It was an epic in every sense of the word and I can't wait to go back and read the entire series straight through all over again.
