The week before a convention is always tight, between needing to make enough comics to cover my absence to preparing enough merchandise to cover my appearance at the show. Leading up to TCAF this weekend I was planning to take full advantage of every weekday.
Instead, I volunteered at the last minute to help chaperone my son’s band trip to our local Six Flags park. I did so after learning not too long ago that his behavioral issues at school had not improved as much as we’d been led to believe, and I didn’t want him making a scene for anyone but me.
The trip was yesterday. I lost not only an entire work day, but an entire day to myself in the week before a convention. Tomorrow is going to be a bit of a rush to get everything I need done before departing for my drive to Canada on Friday.
On the upside, I am proud to say that my son’s behavior at the park was damn near exemplary. He not only got to do his favorite thing at any amusement park, the bumper cars, but was generous in doing what the other kids in our group wanted to do. He even displayed an uncharacteristic surge of bravery when he decided he wanted to try an especially daring rollercoaster. That was made extra memorable by the kids in our group learning that they may, in fact, enjoy daring rollercoasters as well.
I’ll be happy to talk more about our day at the amusement park if you come see me at TCAF this weekend! You can also check in with me to see if I was still able to get all my work done despite losing a day to a field trip.
