A Potpourri of Random Thoughts

I have a few things rattling around in my head but none of them are lengthy enough to make a full blog post, so it’s time to do another series of brief thoughts to fill up today’s entry. So here we go.

Gaerea, a heavy metal band whose members are all masked in occult hoods, have released a couple of songs from their forthcoming album, and I can already tell it’s going to be one of my favorites of 2026. I cannot overstate the strength of the headlock both Submerged and “Hellbound” have had on me.

I’m still thinking about Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, though the longer I dwell on it the more I begin to nitpick at it. I still find it quite an enjoyable film and I recommend you see it for yourself, but the insufferable critic in me is starting to go “was that the best choice?” for various moments. But again, I still really liked it.

I find myself drawn to brief, weird, charming video games lately; both unusual in their subject matter and short enough to not waste my time. Two such games that captured my heart lately have been Herdling and Keeper. Herdling is about an unlikely shepherd tasked with herding very strange creatures across an even weirder landscape. Keeper is… well, you start as a lighthouse and a bird venturing across an even even weirder landscape, and… okay, but then you like… yeah, no, I’m not going to spoil this one for you. You’ve got to experience Keeper for yourself.

I’m getting an idea for an even even even weirder comic. It’s got nothing to do with anything else I’ve ever made, and I’m wondering if I should make it fit into this setting or start something completely unrelated. This is the very beginnings of a new idea so I don’t even have a sketch put down of anything, but there’s something brewing in the old noggin and it’s not going away.

Our family has finally gotten around to watching Wednesday, and we really like it. Catherine Zeta Jones as Morticia Addams is a casting choice I never knew I needed, and Luis Guzman as Gomez Addams takes a little while to find its stride but ultimately succeeds in making the role his own. I also enjoy how the other characters call Wednesday out on her bullshit and she’s forced to confront it.

That’s all of it for now!
