I was meaning to crowdfund the first Dwarves of Kodak story before the end of this year, but a severe art block got in the way of launching that back in late September / early October. I could not for the life of me come up with a cover that I was happy with, and didn’t feel comfortable launching a crowdfunding campaign without a finished book cover, even if the whole of the story had already been made.
I thought I could push it to early November, but real life circumstances got in the way and further delayed it. And just this past weekend, I realized I was once again unhappy with the cover I had made. So I scrapped it and went back to the drawing board… or drawing tablet, as it were.
I’m happy to say that I finally, finally came up with a cover concept and image that I am both satisfied with and proud of! All the extra pages are laid out and the first Dwarves of Kadaz story, titled REVOLUTION, is ready to be crowdfunded!
Except now it’s the middle of November, and there is no way I feel comfortable pushing a crowdfunding campaign when folks have to think about the holidays. So this will have to wait until early next year.
I realize I could have launched the campaign with an unfinished cover, but something in my gut told me that was wrong. If I’m going to be asking folks to support something I’ve made I want to make sure I’m not only finished with it, but it’s in a state that I’m proud of. I feel like it provides a guarantee that I’m dedicated to a project I’m asking folks to fund, and I can be trusted to deliver.
So keep an eye out in early February (a historically successful time for my crowdfunding campaigns) for the launch of Dwarves of Kadaz: REVOLUTION!
And in the meantime, I’ll be doing something else for you fine folks during this holiday season.
