Heading to TCAF

I am beyond thrilled to be exhibiting at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival for the first time this weekend! In all of my twenty-plus years making webcomics I’ve never done a show in another country, so heading north to Canada will be an exciting first two decades in.

For years I’ve heard nothing but good things about TCAF. With so many conventions barely featuring comics any more, especially those with “Comic Con” in their name, TCAF has the distinction of being focused solely on that. Comics. It’s one of the few spaces that is dedicated to our medium, and I am eager to be among comics again, instead of being the only one in the artist alley selling them.

I am beyond thrilled to be sharing a table with Garth for this momentous weekend! We’re splitting the same table, but we won’t actually be vending together. So while it will be strange to not have it be “our” combined table despite both of us sitting at the same table, I’m still excited to be experiencing this first with my long-time pal.

The only thing I am not excited about is the journey there and back again. It’s not so much the distance. From where I live in Massachusetts, the drive to Toronto is comparable to the drive to Washington DC, which I’ve done numerous times over the years. What I’m not looking forward to is driving mostly on one road for hundreds of miles, alone with my thoughts. I have the means to stay awake and focused, but getting that deep into my own head is a recipe for a uniquely somber mood that will I will hopefully get under control by the time I reach the Canadian border.

But I know that whatever my mood will be on the road, my mood at TCAF is going to be elated. I am so excited to meet however many of my Canadian readers can make it to Toronto this weekend. For years, before the price of international shipping skyrocketed, I mailed out so many books to Canada. To have the chance to not only facilitate the sale of books to folks without outrageous shipping costs, but to finally meet you folks face-to-face, is going to be the highlight of my weekend. Provided you can be there, of course!

See you folks at TCAF, I hope!
