Working Through Covid

At the end of last week I got a little surprise. After an enjoyable DragonCon and a lengthy buddy road-trip together, Garth informed me that he tested positive for Covid-19. I tested like crazy on the day he informed me and the day after that. On the morning after that, I finally tested positive myself.

So I’m back in isolation with Covid-19 after DragonCon. Again.

(The last time this happened was four years ago. I realize I’m making it sound like it’s happened consecutively with my phrasing just now.)

After a rough first couple of days, where the cough was getting me and fatigue was hitting me pretty hard, I was advised to seek a prescription for Paxlovid from, well, pretty much everyone in my social circles. I am vaccinated but I haven’t been great about getting the updated vaccines, so that’s on me. A brief chat with a doctor near the middle of my second day landed me a scrip, and I got the meds.

I am still isolating and masking, but holy hell I feel fine. I wouldn’t even know I was sick, save for some slight light-headedness when I stupidly physically exert myself too much. But man, Paxlovid is a hell of a drug. I could do without the metallic taste in my mouth that makes me feel like I’ve been making out with a battery, but I’ll endure that side-effect.

Which makes isolating so much worse because I became so bored so quickly. So instead of putting up filler this week like I was originally planning to do while I recover, I’ve decided to work through this week for no other reason than I need something to do while I’m quarantining myself. Even writing this blog is a relief from the tedium.

I am still easing into it, of course. I am still sick despite feeling all right and grinding away at extra work is only going to make my recovery take longer. So, fingers crossed, there won’t be an interruption in the comic’s updates and folks who don’t read these blog entries won’t notice that I’m sick. Again.
