Thanks to maintaining a buffer of comics I’m in a place where I can take a week off from producing new pages and focus on other things. Normally this time is spent making new exclusive art for my Patreon or writing scripts for future pages, but this week is being spent catching up on the much-delayed commission queue from my Kickstarter campaign.
I pride myself on being relatively prompt with my commissions, on the rare occasions that I’m taking them. My art style isn’t terribly complicated, so it’s easy for me to complete them at a quick turnaround. This time, however, the odds have been against me and I’m still working on a commission queue from pledge surveys that were completed back in March.
The biggest delay I faced was that nasty, nasty case of poison ivy that spread across both my arms and much of my torso. I was able to work through the intense discomfort to keep the comic updating normally, but doing any extra work was beyond uncomfortable. The severity of the rash, plus the breadth of its bloom, sidelined me for over two weeks. It’s cleared up now, but I can still see hints of where it’s been.
The other delay was the extra length of the final chapter of this psychic story. Chapters normally run 24 pages before I take my scheduled week-long break, but this one called for 30 pages. Having to produce extra comics to properly wrap things up delayed my break to dedicate to other things.
I’m finally chipping away at that commission queue properly, and while I was even more delayed this week thanks to being absolutely wiped out after my overnight drive home from TCAF, I’m pleased with my progress so far. If I can keep the momentum of the last two days going, I should have the commission queue done by the end of this week!
And then it’s back to my regularly-scheduled weeks of making new comics!
