A Weekend of Milestones

This upcoming weekend is a holiday weekend for many folks. We’re not a religious family so Easter doesn’t have a great impact here, save for the Easter Bunny’s annual giving of chocolatey gifts to my son. But there are otherwise a number of milestones happening this weekend to make it meaningful and eventful for us.

To begin with, it’s my wife’s birthday this weekend! I’m very good at expressing affection and emotion but I’m crap at coming up with thoughtful gifts on my own. My wife usually buys whatever she wants in the moment she wants it so there’s very little to surprise her with. Except this year the Sailor Moon live musical is swinging near us, and I thought it would be a spectacularly thoughtful idea to get tickets for her, since Sailor Moon is one of her all-time favorite shows. But alas, one of her best friends, who shares a love for that show, nabbed tickets before I could as a birthday present for her and they’re going to the show together. So my birthday present to my wife will be watching our son so she can nerd out with a good friend over their shared love of Sailor Moon.

The day after is the anniversary of the day we decided to start officially dating, all those many years ago. I remember the day but I don’t remember the year, though she does. I protested keeping track of the day for years because it falls on April 20th, or 4/20, and I’ve never been a fan of “420!”-related marijuana references.

And finally, on an overly-doting cat-dad note, that same day will mark one month since we adopted our newest cat, Normandy! One month with a new kitty isn’t a huge deal, but we’ve already become so enamored with her that it feels like she’s been part of our lives for much longer than thirty days. We won’t be doing anything special, as we already spoil the hell out of her every day, but we’ll mark the occasion with extra snuggles and scritches and playtime with her. She’s so cute you guys oh my goodness.

Happy holiday weekend if you celebrate! We’ll have our own milestones to mark.
