Milestone Warning

Today isn’t so much a blog entry as it is a warning. This is the last blog before I reach what I consider to be a major life milestone.

Next month, it will have been thirty years since I decided to change my diet and lifestyle to a completely plant-based one. Next month will be the thirtieth anniversary of my decision to go vegan.

This is my warning to you that I am not going to shut up about it for the entirety of August.

What I can promise you is that I’m not going to go out of my way to talk shit about people’s decisions to eat meat*/use animal products/etc, although people talk plenty of shit about vegans. I should know, I’ve heard every joke about us for the past three decades.

*I will, however, give you such a stink-eye if you order veal or lamb or octopus around me at a restaurant.

What I will likely be doing is talking about my experiences having a plant-based diet since the late 1990s, reflecting on why I did it and continue to do so, giving special shout-outs to those who helped me along the way (don’t worry Mom, you’ll get your many deserved flowers), talking up cool plant-based restaurants and bakeries, and sharing recipes that I rather enjoy.

I usually don’t talk about my plant-based lifestyle/diet because it’s just a normal part of my life, but if there’s ever an excuse to make it seem special it’s reaching its thirtieth anniversary.

You’ve been warned, but it remains my hope that maybe some of you will be inspired to give it a try yourself.
