Ready To Dumb It Down A Bit

The last few weeks I’ve been playing two games, one of which I wrote a blog about: Blue Prince and South of Midnight, a brilliant puzzle game and a heartfelt story of empathy, respectively. They affected me in different but significant ways.

Blue Prince pushed me to think in ways that challenged my intellect. South of Midnight touched my heart with its themes of healing and its spectacular soundtrack. I am grateful for the uplifting, educational, and emotional experiences these games provided.

But today DOOM: The Dark Ages comes out and whether or not it’s any good I’m ready to dumb things down a bit and slaughter hordes of demons to brutal heavy metal soundtrack.

Obviously I love games, comics, movies, and other stories that are everything represented by Blue Prince and South of Midnight, but I would argue that even the most cultured among us need a break from all that sometimes. As another example, I love cooking meals from scratch from my family but if I did that every single night I’d get burned out. Some days I want to cook something out of a box or heat something up in the microwave to give myself a breather.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is going to be my breather. My brain and my heart have been stimulated enough for now in my video gaming free time. They need a break. Time to blow stuff up and feel like a badass.
