First Blog After A Break

I’m going to be honest. I always have difficulty getting back into the groove of writing the Tuesday & Thursday blogs after taking my scheduled week off between chapters. I like writing them and once I’m back in the swing of it I normally have plenty to talk about, but this first one back always feels like I’m taking stumbling steps.

I could talk about things I was excited about a week ago, but that excitement has faded. Anime Boston was a lovely time but the new thrill of telling the few stories that came from that weekend has softened with the passage of these intervening days. There were things that happened last week that would have made for amusing entries but in this moment I’ve almost forgotten what I wanted to say about them, and how I wanted to say it.

There’s also the issue of motivation. My son had an eventful weekend with one particular thing that’s story-worthy, but tonight I just don’t feel up to the task of writing a lengthy entry about it. After a week away from blogging I feel the need to ease back into it, not go all-out on a story of how my eleven-year-old son impressed a scientist working at the MIT Museum.

I’ll be back in the habit of writing about music I love, video games I’m playing, the creative process of making art, fatherhood’s many ups-and-downs, the antics of my cats, or anything of significance come Thursday, now that I’ve flexed briefly-unused muscles today. The first day back at the gym is always the hardest, as they say, and for writers the same can be said of being away from the keyboard for a spell.
